When your website is complete, go to Google My Business
There are lots of ways to promote your business online, many of which are FREE, but are you making the most of them? If you're a small to medium size business owner looking to get more local customers then you're in luck, with a little bit of time and effort you can make your business more visible online, dramatically increasing the chance that your ideal customer finds you. Here are my 5 top tips to make your business visible online to local people, great for hairdressers, beauty salons, bakeries, cafes, bars, hotels, car garages plus many more..
1) Claim your FREE Yell.com listing.
Yell.com listings often come up pretty close to the top of local Google search results (depending on your business) Either claim the listing that has automatically been generated for you, or create a new business profile, add your business logo, description, opening hours, contact info and most importantly a link to your website. Go to Yell.com free listings
2) Claim your FREE Google My Business profile
Verify your business on Google Maps then update your Google My Business profile and verify your website. It takes a little bit of effort to get the most out of this one, but I can guarantee it will be worth your while. With features like instantly updating your contact info and opening hours you really can't afford NOT to have Google My Business. Drop me a message if you need any help.
3) Look for other relevant local directories for your business
There are lots of local directories that you can claim FREE listings on. Research the most relevant ones for your business type and claim those first. Some examples are CYLEX, Thompson Local, Bing and Yelp, but definitely look for industry specific ones where possible.
4) Make full use of social media
With so many social media options it can be difficult to know where to start. The most useful tips that I can give you are:
Go where your ideal client is and
Don't spread yourself too thin. But the main thing is, which ever social platforms you choose, remember to add a link from your profile to your website.
5) Review sites
Claim and manage your business profile on sites like TripAdvisor - Checked and Vetted and Checkatrade (remember to add a link to your website). Thank people for positive reviews and address any negative reviews in a professional manor.
6) Invest in a professional yet affordable website
Unless you require advanced features, you don't need to spend a fortune on a website. The most important thing is that it looks good, it is easy to navigate and it has a clear call to action. Basic SEO (search engine optimisation) should come with the website as a priority as should mobile optimisation.
